'restoring comfort'

Graeme Wong’s architecture cares for creatures who cannot speak for themselves. His project—a sanctuary for injured urban waterbirds in Limehouse—is as much about education and stewardship as it is about rehabilitation. Inspired by avian anatomy, the building’s form echoes a wing in mid-recovery, framing spaces for tending, teaching, and release. Local volunteers, students, and children become caretakers, learning how to return birds to the wild. Constructed from reused scaffolding and timber, with surfaces built from feather-like offcuts, the structure is lightweight and mobile. Graeme’s repair is ecological and empathetic: a gesture that makes space for healing, for both human and non-human life.
