marginal gains

Tina Wu’s project repositions the laundrette as a social space—one built not just for function, but for connection. Located in Limehouse, her intervention blurs the boundary between home and public life by combining washing facilities with spaces for waiting, meeting, and inhabiting. Drawing from the concept of the “strayed home,” Tina investigated how idle time during domestic chores could be turned into opportunity for community exchange. Through iterative design studies—modeling thresholds, thresholds, and shared enclosures—she crafted a layered architecture that invites lingering, observation, and encounter. Repair here is relational: it’s about mending social fragmentation by reweaving micro-interactions into the everyday fabric of the city.
