'urban scout centre'

What if children could build their own cities? Inspired by the spirit of adventure playgrounds and scouting’s DIY ethos, Zuzanna Jastrzebska proposed a scout centre in Whitechapel that merges high-tech digital scanning with low-tech round timber joinery. Her research into pioneering structures and irregular materials led to a hybrid system that respects the natural qualities of wood while inviting young users to assemble, play, and reconfigure the architecture themselves. The building becomes a landscape of autonomy—one shaped by hands-on learning, communal effort, and imaginative re-use. For Zuzanna, repair is a pedagogical act: teaching young people how to take ownership of their environment through creative, embodied making.
